Buying Online - [Good & Ugly]

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 27, 2012, 12:12 PM
[PhotoBomber] - [Tumblr] - [You Tube] - [Twitter] - [Cosplay.com]

A warning to the people

One of the questions I get a lot are "who do you buy ____ from?"
I always assumed that all sites were pretty equal,
but I recently have been, and still am, dealing with a dispute form a contact website,
they have broken their our rules but still refusing to refund the purchase,
and because of the way they worded the product paypal is refusing to step up.

I'm pretty burned,
and I know others have been screwed over,
or have had major problems from dealing with people online.
As well as people who have had amazing experiences.

So!
Here is my list,
A list of the Good and the one Ugly I have received.
For Contacts, Wigs, and other things I have bought online.

I will keep adding as I remember things.

If you have any recommendations for either the Good or the Ugly,
please comment and I will up-date this list,
I don't want other people to get screwed over if I can help it.

I ALWAYS pay online via paypal. Why? Because if something goes awry and the seller isn't interesting in issuing you a refund, it can easily be disputed and your money returned...

Not always.
PayPal refused to help me when I never received my contact lenses. They said it wasn't a 'tangible item' that contact lenses where a service and not an item. I called 3 times a day and they would either hang up on me or tell talk over me with their policy and tjen hang up on me.

fm-anime's wigs are amazing.
I ordered 2 from them, 1 short one, 1 long one (100cm)

They're both beautiful and soft

I've ordered my wig from FM-Anime o 3o;

I heard mostly good reviews, so I shall put my input once mine comes in.

But I second Milanoo for the Bad, and Cosplay DNA for the good o 3o;

But I heard alot of bad things about PinkyParadise, so buyer beware o 3o

So, I am really inexperienced with making clothes, so I buy online. I was surprised when I saw Milanoo on your list, and I'd just like to know why. I bought a lolita dress from them once and it turned out fine. I'd just like to know your reasons, if that's alright with you . . .

Another good wig shop is EpicCosplaywigs.com I have ordered from them many times and they ship their wigs the next day. They are also pretty good if you need the wig quickly. Foureyez.com is another good contact shop online. I have ordered from them twice and have gotten them right around the time they were supposed to arrive.

I ordered my Altair cosplay from MicCostumes.com. While it was listed as Desmond Miles' outfit, the fabric is good quality and it even came with a little holster for his hidden blade and a loop of pleather for his sword.

HOWEVER...

I bought it December 2011 and so far:
- The Velcro has come away from the triangle he has on his chest. (The thing on the front of the sheathe for his short blade.)
- One of the throwing knife sheathes on his leg guard broke off it's studs. It is now waiting to be sewed on again.
- Every one of the throwing knife sheathes on his belt have broken off their studs.
- The trousers that come with the cosplay are simple jogging trousers and are absolutely huge. I ordered a M and I could fit 75% of my body in one leg.

I've found CosplayFU to be a good site. It has American, Canadian Australian dollar, GB Pound, and Euro currency options, as well as a good shipping range, and website options (just change .com to .co.uk etc).

Some things are pricey, but others are relatively cheap, and all of what I've ordered so far is good quality, and worth the [price if it was a little more expensive.

They have a wide range of fandoms to pick from, and they also do commissions for fellow non-sever/learner sewers out there who don't want to risk making their own costume and making an absolute mess of it, but as I've not used that service, I can't say how good it is.

Cosplay House is also a pretty good site, very similar to CosplayFU, if a bit more professional looking. It's a bit pricier in some cases, but I ordered a Genin Haruno Sakura costume and it's fairly good quality (the only downside was that I didn't order it at a custom size, and so the leggings are essential boy's boxers on me, but that was my own fault). The wait time for the costume took a while, a couple of weeks if I remember rightly, but the result was worth the wait.

Both websites sell wigs and accessories such as swords hats necklaces, weapons, etc (I would recommend CosplayFU for the necklaces, since they're pretty cheap), and I would recommend them both for at least costumes (I can't say either for wigs, as I get them elsewhere)

OH NO, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE. I HAVE NEW PLACES TO SPEND MONEY. ALSKDJF;ALSKDJF, THERE GOES ALL OF MY SAVINGS. xD
But I have to ask, is the ebay seller Tokyo Frontier really legit? I mean, your wigs that you got were actually good? I'm finding it hard to believe that their Sailor Moon wig looks that amazing and is only $20!! :O Same with some of the others.... xD

Look at their shipping though,
I'm pretty sure that's how they cover extra costs.

But yeah,
I've had no problems with Gakupo and Miku was awesome until I toss it loose in my trunk for 2 hours with a bunch of luggage and props X'D Even then I could detail the hair ball, HAHAHA

Well most of them do have quite the shipping price to make up for it, but some are free shipping to the US! So I'm still a bit surprised. xD

OH DEAR. Well that's a quality wig for ya! ;D

Ohh, I have a good one you should be wary of. They're called MJ Trends. Used to order them all the time, but then they just dropped the ball. Went from shipping to the same day/next business day, and I'd get it within 3 days. Then they wouldn't ship until up to a week or "only at the beginning of the week" whatever the hell that means. And it'd take up to 2-4 weeks to get to me.

The last straw was that I needed some fabric ASAP so I forked over the extra dough to expedite the shipping. NOPE, came the week after I needed it. ~Sheniji ordered the same time (to confirm if it was just the post or if they were jacking it up) They sent her the wrong fabric increments (was white, to boot, and the red fabric on top of it had bled onto the white SOMEHOW making half a yard of it useless) Also 4 yards of the wrong fabric entirely, and didn't send the third fabric type at all. They told her to ship it back to confirm and they'd refund. When she did, they said they had no such order on their records and accused her of trying to swindle them for free fabrics/free refund.

/RAGEQUIT the shit out of them. DX Then they discontinued the ONE THING we'd ever consider ordering from them, (was a spandex stretchy gold, the only gold material I've found that isn't yellow and looked pretty. However, it's SATAN to sew with) since they were the only ones we knew of that carried it. MJ Trends was epic, but they did some freaky shit and turned into douche-canoes.

They MIGHT of gotten better, I dunno. I stay the hell away from them now, and warn anyone I can. And if you do order from them, KEEP ALL THE EMAILS YOU CAN and order like, 3 months on top of when you need whatever.

If you don't wanna risk them, like a smart child, the GOOD one ~Sheniji found is Spandex House. Very nice, ships like the world is gonna end, and their prices are pretty good. Better selection, too!

A good wig store is epiccosplay.com, their wigs are so easy to maintain.
A bad wig store is fm-anime.com, their long wigs TANGLE SO BAD and they're near impossible to fix.

I've purchased an Izaya high school cosplay from there and a black spike wig. Both are really good, imo. The cosplay however, would be better if you actually sewed it yourself, I think. The wig comes with some basic styling, but if you wanna do anything special to it, then you gotta do it yourself. I really like the site, tho! :)

Don't use Milanoo! I ordered a KH II Sora costume as well as a christmas gift for a friend. I was supposed to be shipped to my friend since I was going to be out of town for the week of estimated arrival. She never got it and I had to pay another shipping rate to have it delivered. I ordered the costume in November, it didn't get here until March. Then it was the wrong size. The only good thing about that purchase is that I've lost a lot of weight lately and can now unexpectedly fit in the costume.

On the other hand, I found a great site for wigs, but I can't seem to find it again. Too bad, the one I bought is a great quality, very soft, and easy to style.

Every wig site will carry different shades and fiber content (and shipping times/pricing),
the best bet is to go thru the links and see if which ones you like best,
wigs are largely based on preference I find ^^'

The awful awful; Milanoo.
Sweet lord, their products are flip of a coin whether they'll arrived as described or falling apart - their lolita dresses are pretty hideous - and the quality of their products is just TERRIBLE.

Agreed. My friend and I ordered some of their dresses once, and they didn't come for about 2 months, when they were supposed to be shipped in two weeks, 4 max. They also delete any negative feedback you post to their site.
